Chickenpox is a common childhood disease caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV). Chickenpox is highly contagious viral infection and most people have caught the disease early in childhood. Once a person has chickenpox, the virus remains in the body in a latent form. If reactivated later in life, the chickenpox virus can lead to shingles. Chickenpox symptoms include the formation of a rash on the face and body. The rash spots then form blisters which dry out within a few days. Children with chickenpox may experience a low grade fever. Adults with chickenpox may develop high fever and pneumonia. Bed rest is the most commonly recommended Chickenpox treatment as most patients will usually recover within ten days. chickenpox is a more serious concern for adults and womens health during pregnancy as chickenpox disease poses risks for child birth defects while pregnant.
